“I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”
- John 8:12

In John 8, while Jesus is teaching in the temple courts, he reveals to the people in the temple that he is the light of the world, and he says to them that if they follow him, they will also have the light that leads to life. Jesus’ words reveal that he is the original light - Jesus is the source!

Before you can be light in the world, you need to be connected to the source - the true light, Jesus. A connection doesn’t occur on its own - it is intentional. So you need to make sure you are plugged in to the source by consistently spending time with God - asking him to direct your steps, asking him to teach you, and asking him how you can be a vessel for him so that others would know him.

Are you spending time with God? Are you connected to him? If you aren’t, you can connect today. If you are connected to the source, how strong is your connection? It can always be stronger, right?

God wants to use you to reach others. But if you aren’t connected to him, if you’re not growing in relationship with him, and if you’re not making space to listen to him, then how will you be light?

There is more to God than we could ever know or understand. So be encouraged and excited that when you spend time with God, you will learn more about his heart and look more like him, so that you can be light and point others to his love.

God, I know that you are the true light.
Thank you that you have called me to be light. Thank you that I get to be involved in your story, pointing others to you.
I want my life to point people to you but I know that I can’t do that if I’m not connected to you.
Help me to be connected with you.
Help me to spend time with you.
Go before me and guide me today and always.
